Ahead of the Spanish Armada International Conference, taking place in Sligo between 22-24 September 2017, we bring you a video which symbolizes why Sligo is central to the Armada story.

In July 2015, cannon from one of 3 Spanish Armada ships, La Juliana, were recovered by divers on behalf of the Underwater Archaeology Unit of the National Museum. These artefacts were brought ashore at Mullaghmore, Sligo, before being transferred to Dublin where they are currently undergoing preservation.

This video shows the day the cannon were brought ashore and the impact they had on onlookers.
