Event Details:

Armadascapes and the Sea Painting workshop

A day spent drawing and painting in the landscape connected with the Spanish Armada story led by Eamonn Dowdican. Even if you have never painted before this is the opportunity to dip your toe in the water! Each participant will receive an A4 sketchbook, 20 x40 cm Canvas Board and a 20 piece Acrylic Start set but please feel free to bring your own materials on the day too. A screening of Armada 1588 : Shipwreck & Survival – a film on the story of the Spanish Armada Captain Francisco de Cuellar, shipwrecked in Sligo in 1588 is also included in the total price of the workshop as well as a light lunch and tea and coffee. Booking is essential as spaces are limited  to 8 people. Please dress for the weather.

10.00am   Registration at The Spanish Armada Visitors Centre, The Old Court House, Grange Eircode F91Y2D1

10.10am   Introduction, viewing of Armada 1588 film.

11.00am – Travel to Streedagh

11.010am – Explore the area: photographs, recording & documenting, sketchbooks

12.30pm – Return to Grange for lunch (or picnic if weather permits!) to Eamonn Dowdican’s Studio, Grange Eircode F91VY50.

1.15pm – Review work collected. Develop ideas, Draw more. Work on creating finished painting

3.30pm –  End of session

Invitation to all artists both near and far to join Aideen Connolly, Medbh Gillard, Martina Hamilton, Xavi Muñoz and Emma Stroude for a self led drawing day on Streedagh beach as part of the Remembering the Armada Weekend 2023. Artists are encouraged to bring their own materials however, charcoal and paper will be available on the day.
