As part of Semana de Irlanda – Ireland Week – in Madrid, a documentary film about the Spanish Armada in Sligo was screened to full houses at two venues in the city. The team from Spanish Armada Ireland was also asked to present the Armada story, describing the shipwrecks at Streedagh Beach, the escape of Captain Francisco de Cuéllar and his subsequent flight for freedom, which features centrally in the docudrama.

More recently, discoveries of the Armada cannons at Streedagh in 2015 and the successful commemorations that take place there every September were also discussed at both film screenings, as well as other events hosted by the Irish Embassy in Madrid and by Turismo Irlanda.

This included the invitation to present Sligo’s tourism experience to tour operators at a trade event, as well as meetings with other cultural, business and educational bodies, during a busy two day visit that was supported by Sligo County Council.
